Community Partners Initiative Associate Position Description

Period of Performance: April 2024 - May 2025

Location of Work: Remote

Part-Time; $20/hour; up to 25 hours per week

Dovetail Partners is seeking candidates for Community Partners Initiative Associate position(s) to work with communities in fire-prone ecosystems across the Upper Midwest (i.e., MN, WI, MI)  and connect communities to the appropriate resources for building climate resilience when and where they need it most. The Associate(s) will contribute to the identification and implementation of actions that: 

  • support leaders in historically underserved communities,  such as rural communities, Tribes, and communities of color,  to find and access funding and partnership support,

  • address needs related to high fire risk, including  forest health, wildfire, post-fire recovery, community resilience, climate adaptation, and fire adaptation, and 

  • serve as a bridge between Federal agencies and their resources, and communities who need access to climate resilience resources most. 


Position Responsibilities:

  1. Information and Resource Support: Identify programs, services, partners, community leaders, and funding available through agencies that serve communities in order to fully use those tools to successfully implement climate resilience. 

  2. Trust Building: Identify and build effective relationships with a variety of partners in the initiative, including private organizations, Tribal Nations, Forest Service staff, other federal agencies, State, County, and private landowners. 

  3. Technical Assistance: Assistance with the development of funding applications and assisting in implementation of activities funded through grant awards, with a focus on Forest Service funding opportunities associated with the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) and the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act. 

  4. Communications and Training: Collaborate with other community navigator organizations working outside of the region to share and implement best practices, common needs, and cooperative impacts. Facilitate the development and sharing of training materials and opportunities with partners.

  5. Meeting Management: Convene and facilitate meetings with identified partners as needed to build trust, communicate, and share information.

  6. Administration: Contribute to meeting program requirements for reporting and documentation.

The Associate(s) will work with communities in fire-prone ecosystems to advance wildfire mitigation efforts, strengthen community resilience, adapt to extreme climate change, and improve the relationships and resource delivery by and between communities, the USDA Forest Service, and other Federal agencies. 



Desired Qualifications:

Education, training, and/or experience addressing as many of the following as possible:

Research, information gathering, and analysis

Community outreach, engagement, and planning

Wildfire risk and effective fuels hazard reduction techniques 

Land use and natural resource management and planning

Meeting planning and facilitation, consultation techniques, and conflict resolution

Federal agency programs, grants, and Federal awards management

GIS analysis and mapping

Report writing, communication, and presentation of information

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility concepts and skills 


Location: 

The position will be remote with anticipated responsibilities including travel in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and/or Michigan.
